DEVONthink 2.9.16 Speeds Up Synchronization

With our maintenance update 2.9.16 for DEVONthink we focused on enhancing the built-in synchronization. We now let you import multiple databases at the same time from a sync location and pending items are automatically downloaded from the next available location. (more)

Quitting Evernote for DEVONthink

Information worker Yann Rousse switched from Evernote to DEVONthink. He described how he managed the transition in detail in an excellent blog post on Medium:

Moving to DEVONthink from Evernote is not a trivial change. The new tools available to handle my Information and Knowledge activities are quite different and in many ways, far more powerful. The learning curve has started for me but I feel DEVONthink is not only excellent but most importantly the proper fit for me. I’m just beginning to perceive how I can now extend my use of such tool as most barriers I had with Evernote have been lifted now. (more)

DEVONthink To Go supports iOS 11 productivity features

Our update to DEVONthink To Go 2.3 is dedicated to iOS 11 and its enhancements. With drag-and-drop you effortlessly organize your documents inside DEVONthink To Go and or transfer them back and forth between apps. The new Files app lets you access all your documents from a central place that integrates also other file providers such a iCloud Drive or Dropbox. (more)

Contacts in DEVONthink

One of the less noticed import options in DEVONthink is the ability to import contacts from your address book. There are three formats you can import in.

As an extra bonus, the VCard and linked contacts have active links in them. Hover over the word home before someone’s phone number and you’ll see it change. Click it and you’ll see options to call or send a message. (more)

Internal Metadata Backups

DEVONthink does not have a system for automatically backing up everything. DEVONthink has a setting in its Preferences > Backup that controls how many internal metadata backups are done. These backups can be used in a troubleshooting situation by selecting Tools > Restore Backup. (more)

We’ve not only updated DEVONthink and DEVONnote today)but also DEVONagent. DEVONagent Pro 3.9.8 enhances the Search mode for automatically searching sites. DEVONthink 2.9.15 with Rewritten PDF Sidebar

We’ve finally decided to replace the system PDF sidebar with our own code to fix some long-standing issues with macOS El Capitan and later. DEVONthink 2.9.15 brings a completely rewritten PDF sidebar that is not only more reliable than its macOS counterpart but also offers better clipboard, drag-and-drop, and keyboard navigation support. Two For One Windows

Support tickets sometimes present new ideas. And sometimes they rekindle old ones from the back burner. I recently had a ticket from someone who wanted to open a document in two windows at once. So, about half an hour later, another custom AppleScript script was finished — one that would open the same document in two windows, placed side by side on the screen. (more)
